Workshop: Environmental standards for deep seabed mining, Tromsø

  • K.G. Jebsen Centre for the Law of the Sea, Faculty of Law, UiT. Assoc.prof. Ingvild U Jakobsen
  • Walther-Schücking-Institut für Internationales Recht, Faculty of Law, CAU. Prof. Dr. Nele Matz-Lück

It is possible both economically and technically to extract deep seabed minerals. The legal framework needs however to be put in place before states initiate exploitation.

Field course: Palaeo-ecological Training. Theory and Practice, Oslo

  • Institut für Ur- und Frühgeschichte, CAU. Prof. Wiebke Kirleis
  • Museum of Cultural History, UiO. Assoc.prof. Almut Schülke

The combination of a theoretical introduction with a practical field course allows the students to gain a deep understanding of state-of-the-art technologies in archaeological sciences. It enhances our teaching program in archaeometry by adding an archaeobotanical-palaeoecological component.

Research stays: Modelling sub-marine mass failures, NE Atlantic continental margin, Kiel/Bergen

  • Department of Earth Science, UiB. Prof. Berit Oline Hjelstuen
  • GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research / Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel. Postdoc. Morelia Urlaub

Sub-marine mass failures represent a possible threat to seabed installations, but also to populations along coast lines as such failures may generate devastating tsunamis.
